Crime Prevention

Keeping the campus secure through proactive policing and partnerships

Reducing Risks by Working Together

Part of what makes a great police department is the ability to address crime proactively. By educating and partnering with members of the campus community, the community engagement unit keeps our campus thriving. Here are some of the programs and initiatives we offer:

  • Safety and security talks to students, staff, and faculty
  • Universitywide crime prevention tables to promote specific safety and security services
  • Property registration for bicycles and electronic devices
  • SAFE classes and R.A.D. course instruction for students, staff, and faculty

To learn more about these services, contact Staff Sergeant John Farrell: 617.373.5402,

The SafeZone Safety App is a smartphone app that any student, staff, or faculty member can download and use for free. This app will connect you directly to NUPD should you need our assistance or emergency support while you’re on campus.

Download SafeZone from the iTunes App Store, the Google Play App Store, or the Windows Store. You may also use the QR Code.

Blue Light Phones If you need immediate assistance, use one of the many campus blue light phones to reach us. Phones have both emergency buttons and dialing capabilities.

To report an emergency, use the red button. A dispatcher will answer and will ask for more information. Please stay on the line; constant contact with the dispatcher is essential. Officers will immediately be dispatched to your location.

For nonemergency calls, use the black button or dial 617.373.2121 for a safety escort or for nonemergency inquiries.
