Elevator Failure

If you get trapped in an elevator, take the following actions:

  • Use the elevator phone or your cellphone to call for assistance. Press the Alarm or Help button to notify others who may be nearby.
  • Do not attempt to force the door open or attempt to climb out of the elevator because the elevator may restart without warning.
  • Your best course of action is to stay calm and wait for professional assistance. Keep in mind that even if the air temperature feels warm, plenty of air is circulating both in the elevator and throughout the elevator shaft.
  • After you’ve contacted building personnel, wait for facility personnel and/or the fire department to get you out.
