RedEye and App Privacy Policy
Updated August 1, 2019

Welcome to Northeastern’s RedEye safety service. Northeastern has an Agreement with Via Transportation to use their proprietary application to operate the RedEye service. This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains the practices of the Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) RedEye Service (“NUPD,” “RedEye,” “we,” or “us”) concerning information we obtain when you use the RedEye mobile app (the “App”), and through other interactions and communications you have with us (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy applies to the RedEye Services and becomes effective as soon as you access or use the App.

SECTION 1 – WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT AND HOW IS IT USED?
Personal Information Collected

Personal information that may be collected includes first and last name, e-mail address, phone number, service used, and any comments, feedback or inquires that you send to us. NUPD uses your information, including Personal Information, to facilitate the RedEye service. You may receive email or text messages to the email address or phone number you provide to verify your account and for informational and operational purposes, such as account management, customer service, or system maintenance. Any information that you transmit on the App will be collected by Via and remain on their servers and can be accessed by NUPD to assist with RedEye services. Via’s collection and use of your personal information through the App is governed by its privacy policy, accessible through its mobility app or here: ridewithvia.com/privacy-policy/.

Aggregated Information Collected
We receive certain types of information about general activity on the Via Transportation application dashboard. This does not include personal identifying information, may include ride statistics such as booking times, pick up times, and whether a ride was completed.

This information is gathered and compiled into an aggregate form for statistical analysis and reporting.

SECTION 2 – CONSENT
How do you get my consent?
When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction we infer that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only. If we ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, like marketing, we will either ask you directly for your express consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no. Via Transportation will provide you with the opportunity to decline receiving additional marketing and such refusal will not impact your ability to request service through the App.

How do I withdraw my consent?
If after you opt-in, you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent for us to contact you, for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at any time, by emailing us at [email protected].

SECTION 3 – DISCLOSURE
We will not disclose your information unless we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service.

SECTION 4 – THE NUPD REDEYE MOBILE APP
The NUPD does not collect or store personal information from customers downloading, installing or using the App on Apple, Android, or Windows smartphone or other mobile devices. However, personal information is collected when customers use the App to register for a NUPD RedEye account. Customers who want to provide feedback via the ‘Survey’ button in the App have the option to provide contact information if they would like a reply. In that case, information you provide as feedback may be shared with staff directly involved with the NUPD RedEye service, including drivers and contract security personnel to help us improve the service.

SECTION 5 – SOCIAL SHARING FEATURES
The Sites or App may integrate with social sharing features and other related tools which let you share actions you take using the Services with other applications, websites, or media, and vice versa. Your use of such features enables the sharing of information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the social sharing service. Any use of such features is voluntary, and not opting in to such services will not impact your ability to request service through the App. Please refer to the privacy policies of those social sharing services for more information about how they handle the data you provide to or share through them.

SECTION 6 – SECURITY
To protect your personal information, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.
